Slapping Bones on Denim

Denim and dominoes. I know that's not something you usually see together, especially on a handbag, but that's one of the things I enjoy about creating. I like taking ordinary things and finding different ways to use them, even when they don't seem to go together.

I've always been drawn to things that are a little unusual. Sometimes I'll look at something and start thinking about what else I could do with it. It doesn't necessarily have to be something made for crafting. If I can imagine it being part of something I'm creating, I'm probably going to give it a try.

And that's how dominoes ended up on one of my Ugly Denim Bags.

Most of us know dominoes as a game played around the table with family and friends. I grew up knowing them as bones, and I still love calling them that. There's something familiar about seeing those little tiles, but putting them on denim gives them a completely different look.

I wanted the dominoes to be part of the bag's design, not just something added for decoration. I like how they look against the worn denim, the frayed edges, and the different pieces of fabric. It's an unusual combination, but that's what makes it interesting to me.

I decided to call this one Slapping Bones on Denim, because that's exactly what it reminds me of. Taking something we usually see on a table and giving it another place to belong.

One thing I've learned about creating is that I don't have to limit myself to traditional materials. I enjoy working with denim, but I also like adding things that people might not expect to see on a handbag. Sometimes those little ideas turn into something I want to explore even more.

That's also why I enjoy making my Ugly Denim Bags freehand. I like having the freedom to arrange things my own way without worrying about whether everything looks perfectly matched or evenly placed.

I'm getting ready to release my No-Sew Domino Denim Bag Tutorial, where I'll be sharing how I create this design through a full video and a matching written PDF guide. You won't need sewing skills to follow along. And you can work at your own pace.

I'm sharing my approach to creating the bag, but I also hope it encourages you to look at things you already have a little differently. You don't have to make your bag look exactly like mine. You might use different denim, arrange your pieces another way, or come up with something I never thought of.

That's something I enjoy about creativity. We can start with the same idea and still end up making something that feels like our own.

The Domino Denim Bag Tutorial will be available for $97 as a digital purchase. It's also included in my $194 Funky Deal bundle, which comes with all three of my no-sew denim bag tutorials and their matching PDF guides. These are digital tutorials, not finished handbags or supply kits.

I'm still getting everything ready, but I wanted to introduce you to another one of my Ugly Denim Bags and share a little about why I decided to put dominoes on denim in the first place.

I guess that's just how my mind works sometimes. Ha:) All the time) I see something ordinary and start wondering what else it could become. And that has been my style since I was a kid. And that's on every Funky thang!

And this time, it was a handful of bones and some denim.
